Overview

This workshop focuses on the essentials of building a strategic development plan for journals, enriched with practical insights of tactics to employ to achieve various strategic objectives common to many journals from a series of case studies and scenarios. The course highlights the business dynamics of developing journals to enhance performance and achieve strategic objectives. It is tailored to navigate the evolving landscape of scholarly publishing, focusing on innovations like artificial intelligence and the imperative of diversity and inclusion in editorial decision-making. Although some familiarity with the scholarly publishing environment is required, part of the course will also involve discussion of the role of journals in today’s research environment and will consider what threats and opportunities exist for current publishing models. 

Who should attend? 

The training is designed for professionals responsible for managing and developing one or more journals. While participants are expected to have a basic understanding of the scholarly publishing environment, the course is particularly beneficial for those recently assuming responsibilities in title management or development. It caters to individuals from both small and large organizations and spans all disciplines—STEM, social sciences, and humanities.
