This award, sponsored by PA EDitorial, recognises a product, service, technology, business model or project which is both innovative and of significant value to scholarly communication. Submissions can relate to any part of the scholarly and professional publishing industry but must demonstrate excellence in terms of originality and innovation, significance and value to its community, utility and long-term viability. Applications must define clearly the benefits and advances they represent in their sector.
The finalists for both the Impact and Innovation Awards will be showcased in a lightning session at the ALPSP Conference in September. The winners will be announced at the ALPSP Conference Dinner on Thursday 10 September.
The Judging Process
The awards panel will review all submissions and draw up a shortlist. The shortlist will be confirmed in June and the finalists will be asked to give a 15-minute virtual presentation to the judges in July. ALPSP may publish a list of submissions and the statements of innovation and impact. All other information within the applications will be treated in strictest confidence.

AI Talks with Bone & Joint
In an era of information overload, scholarly research output overwhelms researchers' ability to stay current. Bone & Joint have addressed this challenge for time-constrained orthopaedic surgeons by harnessing generative AI to transform research accessibility and create ‘AI Talks with Bone & Joint’. Previously, creating audio versions of academic papers was prohibitively time-consuming and resource-intensive for their small team. In partnership with 67 Bricks, they used rapid, cost-effective text conversion to podcast episodes, allowing researchers to consume medical research during commutes, exercise or other activities. This innovative solution dramatically reduces the time and effort required to stay up-to-date with cutting-edge scientific literature.
