13:30 - 14:45 > Session 1 Keynote: Learning From The Experts: What Science Communicators Can Teach Us About Research Impact

Deansgate Suite 1&2

Keynote Speaker: Suze Kundu

How do science communicators turn complex research into stories that inform, engage, and influence? In this keynote we’ll have the opportunity to hear from a practicing nanochemist and successful, experienced science communicator. Suze will share practical lessons scholarly publishers can apply to strengthen the impact of the research they publish. We’ll learn how breaking down complex ideas into accessible narratives helps non-specialists understand the importance of research in their daily lives, and why contextualising research in the wider environment is key. Suze will explain the importance of narrative, audience awareness, and strategic dissemination beyond traditional academic channels – and help us come away with new tools for creating research impact.

15:15 - 16:15 > Session 2: Beyond Publishing: Lessons From the Outside

Deansgate Suite 1&2

Some of the biggest challenges facing scholarly publishing such as adapting to new technology, maintaining trust, improving efficiency, and responding to changing user behaviour are not unique to our industry. Other industries have faced them before and have found answers we might have not considered. This session brings together speakers who look beyond publishing for ideas, drawing on real examples from various sectors. The goal of the session is to explore what we can learn from the outside, and what should we be paying attention to next?
