Overview
Becoming a manager can be daunting for even the most accomplished people in publishing. Fortunately, management is a skill like any other that can be learnt and developed through self-awareness and practice. This course offers new and developing managers a framework and approach to help support the transition into management, along with plenty of practical tips and tools to help them master the essentials and build confidence. Throughout, delegates will be encouraged to share their own experiences and to explore new ideas and techniques through breakout discussions and case studies, all grounded in the context of real-world publishing.
For a course teaser, watch our educational video (LINK) where tutors Clare and Nancy offer hints and tips to those transitioning into a management role.

Testimonials
"The course was an exceptional introduction to management. From its start it was obvious that highly knowledgeable and experienced persons were involved in its development. I really appreciated that across the training, there were multiple approaches and models presented, together with its accompanying tasks which were really useful and helped us to properly engage in the content." - Aleksandar Djukic, MDPI
"I found the advice for preparing for and structuring feedback conversations (especially difficult negative feedback ones) using the STAR-AR model very practical and helpful. The time audit and suggestions for self-care were also very useful. Claire and Nancy were both very engaging, excellent trainers and their own examples and experiences really helped to bring the course matter to life." - Pippa Wright, Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE)
“The different frameworks for management styles, communication, and delegation were very helpful, particularly as they were connected specifically to situations found in publishing work.” - Grace Evans, Modern Language Association
