The Society of Young Publishers has launched its annual mentorship programme for the fourth year running, inviting publishing hopefuls living across the UK or Ireland to apply.
The initiative, which has been running since 2019, offers support to those seeking their first role in the industry, or those who are looking to progress within it. Mentees receive personalised,
structured career advice for a period of 6 months, including 1-to-1 mentor progress meetings and networking events. In an effort to increase accessibility for publishing hopefuls, SYP’s newly formed Wales branch will be launching its debut mentorship programme in 2023, alongside the other regional and UK branches.
The scheme will be divided into three strands: "Into", for those looking to secure their first role in publishing; "Ahead" for those who want to advance their existing career in the industry; and
"Launch" for those looking to start their own company, freelance, or explore other non-traditional options. The different branches will be offering different strands - more information on this can
be found on the SYP website.
“We are thrilled to be running the fourth edition of our mentorship scheme across the Into, Ahead, and Launch streams.” Sara Bormolini, SYP Mentorship Lead said.
“It is such an invaluable opportunity for anyone looking to break into the industry or take the next step in their career, and I’m delighted our recently opened Wales branch will be participating in
this year’s programme too.
“I am so excited about all the wonderful mentors that we have on the 2023 scheme who will be offering their precious time and invaluable guidance to publishing hopefuls and junior professionals across the industry. It is amazing to see the positive feedback and support that the scheme has received since its launch in 2019, and I look forward to seeing what this year’s edition is going to bring.”
The 2023 mentorship programme will commence in August and run until January 2024. Applications are open to both SYP members and non-members from 22 May to 11 June.
