London, Thursday 19 January 2023: The London Book Fair (LBF) has today announced the return a event to the LBF calendar: the Research and Scholarly Publishing Forum (20th April 2023).
Taking place on the last day of London Book Fair, the Research and Scholarly Publishing Forum will explore themes such as diversity and inclusion in STM publishing, national and international policies for libraries and Web3 technologies, and will be chaired by Rob Johnson, Managing Director of Research Consulting, who also curated the programme. Damian Pattinson, Executive Director of eLife Sciences Publications, will launch the conference, which will take place this year in the Olympia Theatre.
Speakers participating in the Research and Scholarly Publishing Forum include: Michiel Kolman, SVP Research Networks and Academic Ambassador at Elsevier; Dr Torsten Reimer, Dean of the University of Chicago Library; Julien Roche, Director of Libraries and Learning Centre at the University of Lille and President of LIBER; Isabel Thompson, Head of Product at LabDAO; Philipp Koellinger, Professor in Social Science Genetics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and co-founder of DeSci Labs.
Sessions at the conference will tackle key topics within academic publishing, including: how the widespread adoption of preprints is transforming science communication; shining a light on how diverse (and inclusive) are STM publishers and how they can support an inclusive research agenda; how national and international policies are reshaping the world of scholarly communication; new insights on Web3 technologies and their potential to change the way science is performed and shared.
Rob Johnson, Chair of The Research and Scholarly Publishing Forum Conference, said: “As the pace of transformation in scholarly communication continues to accelerate, the 2023 Research and Scholarly Publishing Forum will explore the forces reshaping our industry. Publishers, librarians and start-ups will share strategies for navigating the open access transition, responding to global policy developments, embracing diversity and inclusion, and adopting Web 3 technologies, giving you the insights you need to keep your organisation ahead of the curve.”
Gareth Rapley, Director of the London Book Fair, added: “We know how popular this conference is with LBF audiences, and we are delighted to see it return to the calendar for 2023. We look forward to welcoming delegates to the event, which will offer expert insights into academic publishing, a fundamental part of the publishing ecosystem.”
ALPSP has contributed two sessions, in partnership with PLS and SDG Publishers Compact Fellows.
