The Berlin Institute for Scholarly Publishing (BISP) and the Program Committee of the 2021 APE Conference are pleased to announce that registration for the conference is now open.

The theme of the upcoming conference is “The New Face of Trust” which, especially after developments in 2020, is as topical as ever. Our lives are changing on a scale and at a speed never seen before. We have a global pandemic, verifiable evidence of climate change and biodiversity loss, and cyber warfare which is attempting to influence global leadership against a backdrop in which evidence and experts are increasingly discounted in place of tribes with their own truths.

Research is increasingly having to step up to meet global challenges and we need robust responses to reclaim trust in both scholarly publishing and the expertise of researchers as we map the path to the future.

The Conference, which will run virtually for the first time since its inception in 2006, will address all of these issues – and plenty more. The preliminary program gives an indication of the depth and breadth of topics.

Arnoud de Kemp, the founder of the conference and chair of its program committee said, “the past few months have shown that research and research communication can accelerate in times of crisis, and the conference will discuss whether changes observed are robust and tested for long-term trust.”

The 16th APE Conference will take place virtually from 12 to 13 January 2021 in Berlin. Ticket prices have been adapted to reflect new virtual realities. Discounts for academics and students are available.
