The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) is pleased to announce that it has provided additional commitment and support through full membership of the Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Communications (C4DISC).
Founded originally by 10 trade and professional associations, including ALPSP, that represent organizations and individuals in the industry, the coalition was set up to address issues of diversity and inclusion. The formal launch of the C4DISC organization took place in September 2020 and it is now accepting new members, partners and volunteers.
The goal of C4DISC is to increase diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and accessibility in scholarly communications while valuing differences, welcoming diverse perspectives, learning from different communities, making space for marginalized voices, and eliminating barriers.
Wayne Sime, Chief Executive of ALPSP commented:
“We are really proud to join C4DISC to help shape a fairer and more inclusive ecosystem in the scholarly publishing and communications sectors in which our members operate. This was a key theme at this year’s ALPSP Annual Conference and we look forward to working collectively with the coalition to ensure that progress and changes are made where needed in the industry.”
Patrick Alexander, Pennsylvania State University Press (ALPSP Council and Board liaison for C4DISC) added:
“It’s fantastic that ALPSP is now a member of C4DISC, and that we have adopted its Joint Statement of Principles. The evolution of C4DISC has been in the works for around 18 months, and I am personally delighted to have worked on behalf of ALPSP to see it become a reality.”
