20 February 2025

In a positive step forward for Open Access publishing in Switzerland, MDPI, the country’s largest fully Open Access publisher, has today announced the renewal of its strategic partnership with the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries. Through the agreement, 22 institutions will receive partner benefits under MDPI’s Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP), including substantial discounts on article processing charges (APCs).
Among the institutions participating in the agreement are ETH Zurich and EPFL Lausanne, along with 20 other leading institutions, further strengthening the reach and impact of this initiative. As of 2024, more than 19,000 research articles affiliated with Swiss Institutions have been published by MDPI and indexed in Web of Science. By reducing logistical barriers and improving accessibility, MDPI reinforces its commitment to ensuring Swiss research remains at the forefront of global knowledge exchange.
"Renewing our partnership with CSAL reflects the trust and collaboration we've cultivated with academic institutions across Switzerland," said Adrian Stefan Zamfir, Institutional Partnerships Manager for the DACH region at MDPI. "We're proud to foster international partnerships that help drive the Open Access movement, empowering researchers to advance knowledge sharing and accessibility at a global scale."
Further details about the agreement are available here.
