(Charlottesville, VA) March 21, 2018 – Silverchair Information Systems (Silverchair) announced today the release of a new Text and Data Mining Interface to the Silverchair Platform. Designed for large-scale data science projects, the Text and Data Mining (TDM) Interface delivers publishers’ content in packages that are optimized for machine learning algorithms and emerging artificial intelligence analysis techniques.
The new interface enables the purchase and download of highly granular, normalized JSON metadata and full-text content packages, saving data scientists significant time and effort in assembling and preparing content for their research and commercial projects. The packages provide a detailed breakdown of each content element and entity into their own unique, easily identifiable, and readily-scriptable form. Once downloaded, the structured packages can be combined with other content sources and processed in the data scientist’s system of choice.
"Silverchair continually develops the Silverchair Platform to respond to the changing research landscape,” said Jake Zarnegar, Silverchair Chief Product Officer. “The TDM Interface will enable publishers to better meet the needs of the rapidly growing number of research and commercial data scientists."
Silverchair consulted directly with data scientists to understand how they mined research content. There is additional evidence that using full-text, normalized content sets accelerates TDM projects and improves project outcomes. A TDM research team estimated that 60% - 90% of the time needed to mine data was consumed by data preparation and normalization[1]. Another research team mining 16.5 million articles reported significantly improved results when using full-text content versus abstracts only[2].
Publishers who use the Silverchair Platform have full control over the deployment and monetization settings of the TDM Interface. Silverchair’s pilot partners plan to offer TDM products that include metadata packages for subscribers and full-text content packages for special purchase.
Silverchair will incorporate pilot feedback into continued enhancements to the TDM Interface via the Silverchair Platform development roadmap.
