7 January 2020
A new prize has been launched to recognise the work of university press publishers in addressing important global issues.
The Association of Learned & Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) and Cambridge University Press will announce the results of the inaugural University Press Redux Sustainability Award at the Redux 2020 Conference to be held in Cambridge from 17-18 March 2020.
The award will be given to an initiative, publication, product or project aimed at addressing one or more of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Among other things, these cover poverty, equality, the environment, and the pressing need to make real progress towards a sustainable and equitable future.
Mandy Hill, Managing Director of Academic Publishing, Cambridge University Press and one of the three-strong judging panel, said: “University Presses are both communicators and facilitators of research, knowledge and data. This gives us the potential to play a key role in addressing today’s global issues.
“We want to recognise some of the innovative ways publishers address these grand challenges, from important books, journals and policy documents, to new digital solutions: projects which support and drive the change towards achieving sustainable development globally.”
This year’s Redux Conference is being hosted and curated by Cambridge University Press and will address the question: what is the role of a university press in 2020?
A biennial event, the conference gives delegates an international view of the many and varied aspects of university press publishing from presses large and small, new and old, as well as from the many associated industries and organisations.
Wayne Sime, Chief Executive of ALPSP said: “We look forward to bringing together University Press publishers at the Redux Conference in Cambridge this March. The event promises to be packed full with fantastic speakers, opportunities for discussions and networking, as well as showcasing the most innovative initiatives.”
The conference will take place at Churchill College, Cambridge, from 17-18 March and the closing date for award submissions is Wednesday, 15 January.
