Ingo Rother appointed Managing Director of the Berlin Institute for Scholarly Publishing

With an extensive background in the publishing and media industries, Ingo Rother brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. He has 15 years of experience at Brill, where he worked in sales and served as executive assistant, successfully supporting the integration of the publishing houses Ferdinand Schöningh and Wilhelm Fink. Prior to that, he was the Managing Director of a media production company. Ingo holds a Master's degree from the University of Paderborn, where he studied Literature, Media Studies, and Social Sciences.

In his new role as Managing Director, Ingo will immediately take over the task of organizing the 2025 Academic Publishing in Europe (APE) Conference, which will take place on January 14 and 15, 2025, in Berlin.

“With years of experience in academic publishing, Ingo Rother is an ideal candidate to lead the Berlin Institute for Scholarly Publishing into the future – I look forward to the 20th anniversary edition of the Academic Publishing in Europe conference in 2025, and I am convinced that BISP and the APE will continue to flourish under Ingo’s leadership in the coming years,” said Christoph Seils, Chairman of the BISP.

Ingo Rother succeeds Marta Dossi, who has left the Berlin Institute for Scholarly Publishing.

About BISP
The Berlin Institute for Scholarly Publishing (BISP) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing publishers, researchers, funders and policymakers together. BISP provides the logistics for the Academic Publishing in Europe (APE) Conference, an annual exchange of information between publishers, researcher institutions, libraries, universities and decision-makers at local, national and EU level. Additional income from the APE Conference will be invested in developing and running seminars and training courses for early-career researchers, early-career publishers, and early-career professionals at research funders. BISP was founded in 2020 by the Walter de Gruyter Foundation, an independent, not-for-profit family foundation dedicated to the promotion of science and research, especially in the humanities and social sciences.
