The Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Communications (C4DISC), formed to discuss and address issues of diversity and inclusion within our industry, has updated its Joint Statement of Principles.

In principle and in practice, collectively, C4DISC member and partner organizations value and seek accessibility, diversity, and equitable and inclusive practices within the scholarly communications ecosystem. Our goal is to promote involvement, innovation, and expanded access to leadership opportunities that maximize engagement across identity groups and professional levels.

The work done to update the Joint Statement of Principles was truly a community effort. When the Joint Statement of Principles was originally drafted, the founding organizations acknowledged that it should be a living document and committed to reviewing and updating the statement every two years. The Steering Committee invited members, partners, and adopting organizations to propose changes to the Statement for the first time earlier this year.

“We received some really wonderful, quality feedback about how to improve the Statement,” said Melanie Dolechek, C4DISC Convenor. “It was really encouraging to see how engaged the community was in collaborating on this effort. The resulting changes have not altered the spirit of the Statement, but have made it even more inclusive and strengthened our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Kudos to our community for their contributions!”

All scholarly communications organizations are invited and encouraged to adopt the Joint Statement of Principles to show their support for making our community more diverse, equal, accessible, and inclusive. Opportunities to become a member, partner, or donor are also welcomed. There are currently more than100 organizations in support of C4DISC efforts and we hope you’ll join us if you have not already done so.

If your organization would like to adopt the Joint Statement of Principles, complete the Adoption Form.
