September 16, 2021 – Mount Laurel, NJ – The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) invites applications for the 2021-22 Fellowship Program. Interested candidates can find details on the application process on SSP’s website.
Early-career professionals in the first four years of their employment in the scholarly communications industry and students enrolled in publishing, library, and information science programs are eligible to apply. Applicants should include their résumés along with responses to the open response questions posted on the Fellowship program site.
SSP awards 12 students and early-career professionals with a highly competitive Fellowship. This experience offers a wide range of career development, training, and networking opportunities for students and early-career professionals in the scholarly publishing industry.
The Fellowship provides training opportunities, complimentary SSP membership, registrations for selected SSP events, and travel reimbursement of up to $1,300 for US applicants and up to $2,000 for those coming from abroad to attend the Annual Meeting to be held in Chicago, IL on June 1-3, 2022.
Fellows are paired with an industry expert mentor, communicating via email and Zoom throughout the year, and attend quarterly Leadership Academy webinars.
Fellowship recipients are expected to report on sessions they observe at the SSP Annual Meeting–describing experiences and learning outcomes, join and actively participate in an SSP committee, contribute to a Fellowship project, provide feedback about SSP programs, and work with volunteers to promote and highlight the Fellowship program. Applicants are asked to discuss how they intend to apply their Fellowship experience in the future.
“We have re-imagined our Fellowship program to expand participation leading up to the Annual Meeting,” notes SSP Executive Director Melanie Dolechek. “The Fellows are an integral part of our community—helping keep SSP’s programming fresh and relevant. In addition, the program is a great way for them to get involved, expand their network and learn additional skills that will help them excel in their future careers.”
