This year’s conference will be bookended by bold ideas and future-focused leadership. Professor Christopher Smith, Executive Chair of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), will open the conference with “Curiosity, meet Choice.” SHAPE and the Modern Industrial Strategy. His talk will explore how Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) fit into evolving government policy and the role expected of HSS academics. The first day will close with ‘The Necessary Transformation of University Presses’ from Wendy Queen, Director at Johns Hopkins University Press. Wendy will be challenging presses to embrace modernisation and harness technology for the future.
Day 2 begins with ‘AI & UPs’ from George Walkely, Independent Strategy Consultant. George will be guiding presses on the opportunities and challenges AI brings. Concluding the conference will be Professor Marion Thain, Director of the Edinburgh Futures Institute, who will be asking the question ‘How do we structure knowledge?’
