This week, Hum announced Journal Fit, a new feature in Alchemist Review that instantly evaluates how well submitted manuscripts align with a journal’s scope and standards. This represents an advancement in Alchemist Review’s mission to support editors with intelligence that helps them make faster, better manuscript decisions and gives them more capacity for deep editorial work.
Every editor knows the frustration: opening a manuscript only to realize, paragraphs in, that it's completely off-scope. With more manuscripts than ever and desk rejection rates climbing, the cost of misaligned submissions has never been higher.
Journal Fit delivers an at-a-glance Fit Score (0–10) for every manuscript, calculated across four editorially-critical dimensions: Novelty, Relevance to Scope, Scientific Rigor, and Significance & Impact. Each score includes detailed explanations, helping editors understand not just the rating but the reasoning behind it.
"Journal Fit helps editors identify the submissions that truly deserve deep attention, so you're not spending your evening reviewing a paper that should have been declined in 30 seconds,” said Dustin Smith, CEO and co-founder of Hum.
Journal Fit is the latest milestone in Alchemist Review's roadmap to become a comprehensive editorial co-pilot. Already working with research publishers to deliver AI-powered manuscript digests and insights, the platform continues to add capabilities that help editors not just understand manuscripts faster, but make better, more confident decisions about which ones to pursue.
Journal Fit is available immediately to all Alchemist Review users. The company will showcase the feature and preview upcoming capabilities at the STM Meeting in London next week.
