San Diego, California, USA – April 06, 2020 —The Smart University Foundation (SUF) and IntechOpen, Ltd. today announced their future collaboration on global academic publishing, open access book printing, online publishing, and other publishing and capacity-building opportunities for the future of global higher education.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed outlining the common goal of supporting the SUF initiative “Smart University Press” (SUP) for the publication of academic open access books. The MoU will allow the two parties to join forces in offering open access publishing services and initiatives to universities globally.

Under the agreement, the Smart University Press, founded and managed by SUF, will partner with other universities to allow them to organize their academic publishing activities, thereby increasing recognition and impact. Support includes organization of the entire publishing process, a platform for hosting open access books powered by IntechOpen. SUP will expand its current academic editorial board to ensure and examine the quality of proposed publications. Partner Universities are also able to host the content of their publications on their own platforms.

IntechOpen will provide a comprehensive technical and distribution infrastructure, including hosting the front-end platform of SUP, and all other publishing and distribution services.

“SUF’s mission is to enable universities worldwide to expand their scientific footprint and academic impact locally, regionally, and globally.  Our strategic partnership with IntechOpen will focus on open access academic publishing; a much-needed development area for small and medium-sized universities in many countries,” said Prof. Bassem Khafagy, Secretary General, Smart University Foundation.

“At IntechOpen, we firmly believe that academic research knows no boundaries. The mission and goals of Smart University Foundation as it relates to academic publishing align with our own desire to democratize knowledge using open-access publishing tools and platforms. We are proud to become a vital part to implementing S-U-F´s mission” commented Dr Anke Beck, CEO of IntechOpen.
