ALPSP is delighted to announce the appointment of Megan Ainsworth to the new role of Early Career Editor on the Editorial Board of its journal, Learned Publishing. This role has emerged from the journal’s 30th birthday celebrations which highlighted the need to focus on the future of scholarly publishing and on the role of publishers.

Megan is Journals Publishing Executive at Liverpool University Press, and ALPSP is looking forward to adding her perspectives and opinions to discussions of where to take the journal into the future. The appointment of an early career publisher is an important part of mentoring future generations of publishers, an area that ALPSP is keen to encourage.

Pippa Smart, Editor-in-Chief, said “I am really excited to be working with Megan and looking forward to discussing new ideas and getting fresh perspectives on what we can do with the journal”.

Anthony Cond, Managing Director of Liverpool University Press and Associate Editor of Learned Publishing, added “Scholarly publishers have always provided early career researchers with an opportunity to showcase their abilities, but the industry has been surprisingly less proactive in extending the same forum to early career publishers, as most publishing journal editorial boards and conference panels attest. Learned Publishing is taking the initiative to engage with those who will shape the future of publishing: Megan will bring new insights and connections to the journal as part of her appointment”.

Megan stated her delight at the appointment, commenting that “I am excited to be working with the editorial team and to be able to affect what we publish – it is a great opportunity for me at the start of my career”.
