There has been a persistent call for ‘the public’ to be able to access the research it pays for (via taxes). The term ‘post-truth’ was around before the new White House administration took office, but the result is that helping those not involved in academic research to understand what such research is, and means for them, is more important than ever. Lettie and Sam have reached into the LP archives to find out what we can learn from its authors, and pose four very helpful and interesting questions we may need to answer to overcome the hurdles being thrown in our way.

About the White Paper

To publish is to disseminate research publicly - however, the scope of our audience changing, as funders and other stakeholders demand the widest possible communication of scientific research across the globe. In this whitepaper, we will consider how publishers and editors can enable impartial, inclusive publication and outreach, within and beyond the academy. We will especially look at how publishers and editors are reaching beyond the “ivory towers” of western scholarly discourse to facilitate broader impact of science within society.
