14 September 2016

The Association of Learned & Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) has today announced they will host the tenth anniversary of the annual conference at the Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin in Noordwijk, near Amsterdam in The Netherlands.  The three day event will take place on 13-15 September 2017.

The ALPSP Conference was formally launched in 2008 at Beaumont House, Old Windsor, UK with 160 delegates. Since then it has gone from strength to strength and is regularly attended by over 300 delegates. It is now an established date in the diary for the scholarly and professional publishing community.

Peter Ashman, Director of Learning & Publishing at BMJ and Chair of ALPSP said: “We wanted to find a perfect venue for the tenth anniversary conference. The Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin provides a relaxed, friendly and informal location, with beautiful coastal views. It will be a great place to do business and hear about the latest developments in scholarly and professional communications.”

Audrey McCulloch, Chief Executive of ALPSP added: “We have searched long and hard to find a conference venue that can serve delegates’ needs and that is easily accessible for our global membership. With European members nearby, we hope many more will be able to attend. The proximity to one of Europe’s largest hub airports should make life easier for those travelling from North America, Asia and beyond. Most of all, we hope the lovely beach environment will provide the perfect backdrop to a packed agenda of high quality talks and social events to celebrate our tenth conference!”

She concluded: “We are delighted to announce that the Publishers Licensing Society is continuing its support for the event and we look forward to talking to our regular supporters – as well as any other organizations – who may be interested in getting involved.”

A range of special sponsorship opportunities will shortly be available. If you would like to register your interest please contact suzanne.kavanagh@alpsp.org.

Founded in 1972 by 24 societies, ALPSP has grown to become the largest trade association helping scholarly and professional publishers around the world. The ALPSP Conference was launched in 2008 by then Chief Executive Ian Russell. Prior to this, ALPSP brought members together to network informally at an annual dinner, launched in 2001. Previously to this, the ALPSP Awards were announced at the International Learned Journals Seminar in the spring. Since the conference started, it has nearly doubled in size and is a key date in the scholarly publishing calendar. www.alpspconference.org.
