Clean sweep for Publishers Licensing Society in Stationers’ Innovation Excellence Awards 2017

The Publishers Licensing Society (PLS) was named Innovator of the Year by the Stationers’ Company in their 2017 Innovation Excellence Awards after winning the award for the best Digital Technology Application.

The awards were presented at Stationers' Hall on Tuesday 20 June in recognition of the pioneering work conceived, developed and delivered by the PLS team for PLS’s new suite of Permissions services. Powered by permissions tool PLSclear, the services – PLS PermissionsRequest, PLS PermissionsDirect and PLS PermissionsAssist – make it easier and more efficient than ever to get permission to re-use extracts from publications.

The Awards judges, whose decision was unanimous, said that PLS had received it highest accolade for the following reasons:
“The judges were very impressed with PLS Permissions since it fills a major gap in the publishing market and represents a clever evolution of rights management into a field suggested by the Hargreaves Report.
“PLS Permissions was seen to be well automated and straight forward to operate. The judges recognised the innovative processes that had integrated a mechanism to search through a substantial library of original material with an impressive back-office administrative system to provide clearance to quote and, if required, payment to the publisher / author.”
