The UK IPO recently asked for input to “develop our thinking on how best to respond to” the debate on copyright in the EU.  They particularly asked for input on IP Strategy and the Licences for Europe dialogues.

ALPSP has encouraged the IPO to support the vibrant creative sector which is performing above GDP average, particularly after rumours emerged from the EU that UK Government representatives were supporting reopening of the Copyright Directive.  We strongly oppose the need for reopening, as there is no clear evidence of its requirement.  There are those who complain that ‘copyright is hindering growth’, but those same voices are unwilling to consider the industry initiatives either being developed or already in place which would resolve the issues they raise (consider the walk-out in the one of the Licences for Europe stakeholder dialogues because the discussions were only around licensing…).
