I began volunteering with ALPSP in 2023 as a mentor, and more recently joined the Membership and Marketing Committee. What drew me in was the chance to help shape the academic publishing industry, and to support others working in it through knowledge sharing and guidance. 
 
Volunteering has given me a great deal of perspective. It's a genuine two-way exchange: alongside offering support, I'm constantly learning from the ideas and opinions of the people I meet, and I come away understanding the industry in new ways. 
 
To anyone thinking about volunteering with ALPSP, I'd say: do it, one hundred percent. Even if you're not sure it's for you, there's a role that will fit your schedule and your expertise.
