Publishers' Licensing Services

Publishers' Licensing Services’ (PLS) mission is to provide efficient and effective copyright and licensing services to support publishers in providing access to their content. A not-for-profit organisation, PLS has been serving the collective interests of publishers since 1981 and has distributed almost £42m to publishers from collective licensing in 2022/23. It is owned and governed by four publisher trade associations including ALPSP.  

PLS provides a range of rights management services and resources, including:  

  • PLS Account Manager – a free online account management service for publishers signed up to PLS  
  • PLSclear – an online permissions service  
  • Access to Research – providing free access to academic research to public library users 
  • Rights & Licensing Hub – a resource supporting best practice in rights management.

Association of University Presses

The Association of University Presses represents a global community of more than 160 nonprofit publishers whose shared mission is to ensure academic excellence and cultivate knowledge. AUPresses members are active across many scholarly disciplines in the humanities, arts, and sciences, publish significant regional and literary work, and are innovators in the world of digital publishing.
