Making the transition from management to leadership can be complex and challenging, and never more so than in the current period of unprecedented change to the way we work. Good leadership can have a profound impact on the morale and success of an organization, and – like management – leadership is a skill that can be learned and developed.
This programme introduces the concept of transformational leadership to help leaders understand themselves and their impact and to develop their own unique leadership style. Throughout, and between the two sessions, delegates will be encouraged to share their own experiences, reflect on what they have learned and explore and test new ideas and techniques through a range of exercises and interaction with their peers.
Please note: delegates will not receive a recording of the training course. Read helpful information for delegates attending.
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at new and aspiring leaders in publishing whose remit is growing and developing, and who need support to navigate the transition from management into leadership. It is also a useful refresher for more experienced leaders who want to hone their skills.
This course is not an introduction to management but is specifically aimed at experienced managers looking to take the next step into a formal leadership role. If you are new to management, please check out our Introduction to People Management course, which is aimed at new and first-time managers.
What will you learn?
This course will support managers who are making the step-up into leadership to:
- Understand the power of transformational leadership and the role/s leaders play in organizations
- Consider the importance of emotional intelligence, personal style and impact
- Develop strong relationships, communicate effectively and coach, mentor and influence
- Build trust, empathy and psychological safety
- Create a strategic vision and understand and manage change in organizations.
Delegates will also be encouraged to explore and continue their development as leaders via a brief presentation to their peers and an end of course personal action and self-care plan, and to create and share a new network of contacts with, and through, other delegates.

The course has made me think much more about my impact and own personal leadership style - along with the WHY and SWOT. I am going to carve out time for reflection and thinking/strategy (and not feel guilty about it!) and connect with people even more..." - Helen Cooke, Digital Science
