By engaging kids aged 8-15 directly in our peer review process, with science experts appointed to guide and coach them, we foster curiosity, both in and out of the classroom, and create the next generation of scientists.

JAMS - Journal & Article Management System

JAMS is a modular, all-in-one publishing platform designed to empower small, independent, and under-resourced academic journals.
Its 2024 repositioning introduced flexible pricing tiers for non-profits and publishers in the Global South, making professional infrastructure accessible to all. Combining scalable submission tools, production services, and expert consulting, JAMS boosts efficiency and enables sustainable growth. Trusted by institutions like University College London and backed by MDPI’s expertise, JAMS drives a more equitable publishing landscape. Its growing adoption by journals such as the African Journal of Parasitology and the International Journal of Bamboo and Rattan highlights its commitment to amplifying diverse academic voices.
Enhancing Research Integrity Through Rigorous, Independent Peer Review: The Bentham Science Model
Statement of Impact
Bentham Science has introduced a robust, bias-reducing peer review system that removes editors from reviewer selection and employs a vetted, ranked pool of 60,000+ experts. With triple-tier editorial oversight and a commitment to transparency, quality, and efficiency, this model raises global publishing standards. The initiative has increased trust, reduced review misconduct, and enabled consistent delivery of high-quality research, while supporting over 160 journals and more than 9,000 peer-reviewed articles annually.
Atom Grants
Statement of Impact
Atom is helping to democratize access to diverse funding sources and foster more inclusive research participation. By reducing time and complexity, it allows researchers to focus more on their work and less on bureaucracy. It contributes to institutional goals like R2-to-R1 transitions and supports broader goals of diversity, equity, and academic excellence. Its scalable architecture allows for global deployment across institutions of all sizes.

Statement of Impact
ExplanAItions is Wiley's comprehensive, interactive AI study that transcends traditional publishing research by providing actionable insights on AI adoption in scholarly publishing. Through an innovative digital experience, ExplanAItions quantifies AI use cases, measures adoption timelines, and reveals what researchers need to effectively but safely utilize AI in the research process. This groundbreaking initiative has positioned Wiley as the definitive thought leader in AI and scholarly publishing, capturing 69% media share of voice and establishing Wiley as the natural facilitator for industry partnerships.

AI Talks with Bone & Joint

In an era of information overload, scholarly research output overwhelms researchers' ability to stay current. Bone & Joint have addressed this challenge for time-constrained orthopaedic surgeons by harnessing generative AI to transform research accessibility and create ‘AI Talks with Bone & Joint’. Previously, creating audio versions of academic papers was prohibitively time-consuming and resource-intensive for their small team. In partnership with 67 Bricks, they used rapid, cost-effective text conversion to podcast episodes, allowing researchers to consume medical research during commutes, exercise or other activities. This innovative solution dramatically reduces the time and effort required to stay up-to-date with cutting-edge scientific literature.

ReView 3 - Next generation peer review from submission through to publication
Statement of Innovation
ReView 3.0 (along with its accompanying modules) provides a seamless publishing management experience for all stakeholders involved in journals, books, and conferences. The system offers workflows that integrate content submission, copyediting, automated browser based production, and hosting. ReView enhances efficiency through a modular and configurable workflow manager and is designed to free up a publishers’ teams to focus on other aspects of publishing management.
ReView’s integrated research integrity dashboard and XML conversion options help improve publication integrity and transparency. ReView is a single installation for all journals (or books or conferences) providing instant visibility across publishers' portfolios.

DataSeer SnapShot, in partnership with Taylor & Francis, delivers the industry's first massively scalable, AI-powered editorial screening solution focused on advancing research excellence and integrity through data sharing checks. In response to growing demands for transparency and reproducibility, SnapShot integrates with publishing workflows to support manuscript triage, generate personalized editor/author sendbacks, and deliver sophisticated policy compliance screening.
Our collaboration operationalizes open research policy at scale, transforming broad expectations into actionable feedback for authors — without increasing editorial burden. The pilot shows how technology and publishing leadership can unite to embed data sharing, reproducibility, and trust into scholarly communication.

Alchemist Review uses frontier AI to instantly extract and assess manuscript quality through deep textual analysis, contextual citation validation, and interactive support. By distilling complex research papers into actionable insights—identifying core claims, evaluating methodological soundness, verifying citation integrity, and gauging research originality—Alchemist Review empowers editors to make faster, more confident decisions.
The platform's secure environment protects sensitive academic content while dramatically reducing editorial workload, allowing publishing professionals to focus on what matters most: advancing quality research.

Global Campus
Statement of Innovation
Global Campus is the only1 platform that semantically matches manuscripts with academic literature to find peer reviewers. This leads to best-in-class suggestions, speeding up the invitation process and increasing acceptance rates. But delivering the best suggestions doesn’t determine the success of a solution, it’s the ease of use. That why we’ve developed the ‘one-click stepover’ that allows users to go back and forth between their submission system and Global Campus to enrich their search to reviewers if necessary without additional login, without switching screens, without breaking a sweat.

KGL Smart Review®
Statement of Innovation
Smart Review® is KGL’s application for automating and managing peer review workflows, including best-in-class research integrity. Automated submission checks, fraud detection, and turnaround times are now tracked across multiple journals in an integrated environment with major manuscript platforms and research integrity services. Never has there been a single system that frees up editorial office staff from tedious tasks, provides a complete overview of journal performance, and works with industry-standard technologies—all while protecting scientific integrity and society reputations.

Frontiers’ RI focus beyond a single manuscript to spot sophisticated and systematic misconduct

At a time of unprecedented threats to research trust, Frontiers has launched a new focus on its integrity efforts to move beyond a single manuscript. We have created a unique subunit of research integrity auditors that, together with AI-powered detection, look for patterns across multiple submissions and are empowered to act decisively and independently to safeguard scientific integrity. This unique human-and-AI system has added another layer of protection to our already strict quality control system and has resulted in close to 1,000 rejections in 2024 for serious issues such as peer review manipulation, that can only be spotted at scale. Through rigorous audits and collaborative innovation, we’ve set a new standard for research integrity in publishing, raising the bar for ethical, open, and trustworthy science.

OA Intelligence from Copyright Clearance Center

CCC is nominating OA Intelligence for the ALPSP Innovation in Publishing Award 2025. We believe that OA Intelligence should be considered for this award because it’s a prime example of responding to and solving pervasive industry challenges using innovative technology.
OA Intelligence is the only data enrichment, modeling, and analysis tool that helps publishers automatically disambiguate institutional affiliations and funder relationships, build agreement offers, and analyze open access and publication data to create scalable, sustainable, and transparent deals with institutional customers.
ACM Open
Statement of Innovation
ACM Open is a unique and innovative take on the Read & Publish model, and the cornerstone of ACM’s transition to full Open Access (OA) on January 1, 2026. Developed in collaboration with academic libraries and consortia it enables authors affiliated with participating institutions to publish an unlimited number of OA articles without APCs. Its transparent, tiered pricing structure, based on historical publishing activity, offers institutions predictability and fairness. By removing cost barriers for authors and broadening participation in OA publishing, ACM Open delivers a scalable and inclusive solution that reflects the evolving needs of researchers, institutions, and the wider scholarly communication landscape.

Research Exchange (Submission and Screening)
Statement of Innovation
Wiley's Research Exchange transforms how publishers and societies handle submission and peer review. Unlike other systems that require extensive customization or offer fragmented solutions, Research Exchange is a seamless, all-in-one platform that scales workflows, enhances submission data, and prioritizes proactive research integrity checks, all without extra cost. This innovative approach improves the author experience and empowers publishers to prioritize submission quality and growth effortlessly.
Research Exchange is built on three main components: Submission, Screening, and Review. This entry focuses on Submission, which is currently in market, and Screening, which is in a pilot phase with Sage and IEEE and scheduled to be available in May. Both components are in use at scale across the Wiley journal portfolio.

eWorkflow
Statement of Innovation
Eworkflow is a manuscript submission system which utilises artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and cloud computing. It is built with modern architecture and excellence in UI/UX. It has three main features:

eNeural engine – a peer-review finder that uses the semantic analysis of the submission to find relevant peer-reviewers who have published in that field.

eTelligence – a peer-review assistant that provides specific feedback on every article submitted, helping Editors.

eGenie – a tool which finds people according to a relevant specification. It can help find authors to write specific articles e.g. for a special issue or new Editorial Board members.

OrthoPublish
Statement of Innovation
In 2021, Emma Vodden, Director of Publishing & Innovation at Bone & Joint, identified a major challenge for time-poor orthopaedic surgeons: selecting the right journal to submit to and preparing manuscripts for submission. OrthoPublish was developed – a tool that helps authors find the most suitable journal for their papers and prepares manuscripts to match each journal’s specific guidelines, eliminating the need to manually reformat for every resubmission. Especially valuable for non-native English speakers, OrthoPublish streamlines a traditionally onerous process, saving time and improving accuracy, whilst giving authors a safe and secure alternative to formatting platforms that rely on third-party AI tools.

Statement of Innovation
In a rapidly evolving landscape where AI is transforming discovery and research workflows, Zendy’s new Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)-based revenue share model provides a transparent and sustainable solution to recognise and compensate publishers for use of their content by AI. The first implementation of its kind in academic publishing, the revenue share ensures that publishers are compensated for use of their content based on the real-time value it provides within generative AI experiences. In line with Zendy’s mission to work towards sustainable AI, the model leverages RAG rather than training on publisher data and provides a consent-based and rights-compliant approach to content use, ensuring that publishers retain control over their intellectual property while enabling dynamic, high-quality responses. With over half of Zendy’s publishing partners joining Zendy’s RAG-based opportunity over the past 6 months, the RAG revenue share model is already active and demonstrating both technical viability and commercial appeal.
Dimensions Author Check
Statement of Innovation
Dimensions Author Check is a new research integrity tool developed by Digital Science to help scholarly publishers identify potential risks in the publication and collaboration histories of authors, reviewers, and editors - such as retractions, expressions of concern, or atypical patterns. Responding to the growing need for efficient screening, it draws on the most comprehensive integrity dataset available to provide unmatched transparency through an intuitive, visual dashboard. By streamlining a traditionally manual process, Author Check supports quicker, more informed editorial decisions, while helping to prevent the publication of low-quality research and preserve the integrity of the academic record.

Thoth Open Metadata
Statement of Innovation
Thoth Open Metadata revolutionises Open Access (OA) publishing by providing innovative and fully open metadata management, distribution and hosting solutions and services tailored to tackle the many issues publishers are grappling with when trying to integrate OA books and chapters into the wider book supply chain, while ensuring their long-term sustainability and accessibility. At the core of this is Thoth’s platform – a free one-stop solution to efficiently manage and expose open metadata via open APIs under a CC0 dedication in various industry standards incl. ONIX 2.1, 3.0 and 3.1, MARC, KBART, JSON, and Crossref XML DOI deposits.
