We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and motivated Books Commissioning Editor to join a global publishing house. You will commission high-quality academic books across a range of Humanities subject areas, helping to shape and grow a dynamic and commercially successful publishing programme.

As Commissioning Editor, you will proactively build and manage a list of academic research books, developing strong relationships with academic editors, authors, and learned societies. You will identify opportunities for growth through both organic development and acquisitions, and develop a clear commercial strategy aligned with company objectives.

A strong awareness of the competitive landscape will enable you to spot and capitalise on market opportunities. This role suits someone with strong commercial awareness, excellent organisational skills, and a collaborative mindset. You will be comfortable working towards ambitious targets and contributing ideas within a supportive, team-oriented environment.

Skills & Experience:

• Experience in academic publishing, with a strong understanding of the books and/or journals publishing process
• A self-starter who can work independently while collaborating effectively with global teams
• A proactive, target-driven individual with a proven track record of high performance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines
• Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results
• Financial acumen, including budgeting and financial analysis
• Experience of commissioning and negotiating contracts (highly desirable)
• A positive, solutions-focused approach to problem solving
• High level of computer literacy, including MS Office and relevant work-related systems
