IEEE

Luigi Longobardi is Director of Publishing Ethics & Conduct at IEEE, where he leads integrity and ethics operations across a portfolio of more than 200 journals and 2,000 conferences, representing over 350,000 articles published annually. In this role, he serves as a senior advisor to IEEE governance and executive leadership on ethics policy, oversees large-scale initiatives to detect, investigate, and prevent misconduct, and develops educational programs to build awareness of best practices among editors and authors.

A Ph.D. physicist by training, Luigi brings a researcher's perspective to publishing, grounded in over a decade of hands-on experience across some of the most respected society publishers in the field. Before joining IEEE in 2022, he served as Executive Editor at AIP Publishing, where he led the strategic growth of a multidisciplinary journal portfolio and launched new journals. Prior to that, he spent six years as Assistant Editorial Director at the American Physical Society, where he partnered with APS divisions on community-driven journal launches and drove significant improvements in peer review workflows and author engagement.

Luigi is deeply embedded in the broader research integrity community. He chairs the STM Integrity Hub Expert Working Group, serves on the STM Research Integrity Committee, and has been part of the organizing committee for STM Integrity Day. He was also a member of the NISO CREC Working Group, co-authoring recommendations on communicating retractions and correction, and contributes to the COPE Conference Proceedings Working Group on ethical guidance for conference literature.

A frequent speaker at industry events including SSP, CSE, and STM conferences, Luigi is a committed advocate for transparency, quality, and inclusion in scholarly communication. He is particularly passionate about supporting early-career researchers and publishing professionals, and brings to the ALPSP board a combination of strategic vision, operational depth, and genuine dedication to the mission of society publishing.
