Overview
This group aims to bring together individuals across scholarly publishing who identify as ‘Early Career Professionals’, to help foster a community and create networking and development opportunities. It is also open and welcoming to those who may not be in their first jobs, but who have recently moved into scholarly publishing from other industries.
The Special Interest Group would appeal to any early career professional within the scholarly publishing industry, including but not limited to: Assistants (Publishing, Editorial, Rights, Production), Associate Publishers, Associate Editors, Sales Coordinator, etc.
We host virtual meetings as well as maintaining contact with members via the group’s Slack channel. We would also like to host in-person meetings, where appropriate, so that people in similar areas, namely Oxford, London and Cambridge, can meet and socialise with people from other companies.
The platform will provide Early Career Professionals with the opportunity to listen to presentations (from other members or guests), discuss relevant topics, network and socialise with peers, and gain insights into other parts of the publishing industry. This SIG will give individuals the space to learn about other jobs and companies in the publishing industry, which may allow for career development opportunities to arise. It will also act as a space for informal mentorship through speaking to others who may have experienced similar struggles and gaining advice from peers.
