This course covers all the important aspects allowing you to get ahead in scholarly publishing. There is a focus on practical and strategic understanding that will provide delegates with a solid foundation and the confidence to discuss and engage with key issues across their own and related functions. Case studies and small group interactive exercises will allow participants to explore the ideas presented and network with their peers and ask questions of the trainer and other attendees.

Please note: Delegates will not receive a recording of the training course. Read helpful information for delegates attending.

Who should attend?

All those looking to build a career in scholarly communications with up to two years’ experience in role or with limited exposure to the business outside of core function or department. Particularly relevant to those working in editorial, production and marketing departments at executive or associate level. Also relevant to those in related departments such as administration, sales, subscriptions and customer service; as well as individuals who have not been working in the area for several years and are seeking a refresher. Designed as a follow up to the ALPSP’s ‘How Journals Work’ introductory course (though this is not an essential prerequisite).

Testimonials

Knowing about how the process works makes it easier to see the importance of what me and my colleagues do, why it takes as long as it does, what happens once the articles are out there, etc.” Megan Stalham, RSPH

Outstanding content and delivery. I found the discussions of trends in Open Access and Plan S, on readership vs. editorial statistics, and on P&L to be most valuable for my learning." Joseph Tam, S.Karger AG

The discussions around paper mills, AI writing articles and the benefits of open access were all very interesting and I will be implementing my understanding of those into how I handle each manuscript." Olivia Murphy, The Royal College of Surgeons of England
