The ideal applicant brings a background in product management or content strategy within scholarly publishing, coupled with a strong grasp of XML standards and digital content workflows. Experience with the Silverchair suite of tools is preferred but not essential. They excel at developing product roadmaps, thinking strategically, and possess excellent communication skills. Proficiency in agile methodologies and a customer-centric mindset are crucial. The role demands a balance of technical expertise, strategic vision, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external partners to advance GeoScienceWorld’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Strategy and Development: Lead the strategic planning and implementation of content acquisition and management processes, working closely with publishers, societies, and internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for new content and optimize existing workflows.
  • Product Roadmap and Strategy: Develop and maintain the product roadmap for content-related tools and features, prioritizing initiatives based on market trends, customer needs, and business objectives. Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Market Analysis and Competitive Intelligence: Conduct research on industry trends, competitor offerings, and emerging technologies in digital publishing. Use this analysis to inform strategic decisions, identify growth opportunities, and ensure GSW remains a leader in Earth Sciences content delivery.
  • XML Standards Leadership: Oversee XML standards compliance, ensuring that content workflows adhere to industry best practices (e.g., JATS and BITS) while also evaluating new technologies and methodologies to enhance content quality and efficiency.
  • Stakeholder and Vendor Management: Collaborate with platform vendors, publishers, and cross-functional teams to define product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure that technical releases align with strategic goals and are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Customer Insights and Feedback Integration: Partner with the Customer Success Manager and Director of Society Services to gather and analyze user feedback, aligning content product strategies with customer and partner needs. Use insights to prioritize feature development and enhance the user experience.
  • Innovation and Industry Leadership: Stay informed of emerging trends and technologies in digital publishing, proactively seeking opportunities to introduce new features, services, or processes that align with GSW’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations: Support the Director of Society Services in evaluating and forming strategic partnerships with content partners, offering technical expertise with regard to content migration, content conversion, integration and delivery, identifying solutions that align with their specific needs.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in product management, content strategy, or a similar role within scholarly publishing.
  • Strong understanding of XML standards and digital content workflows, with expertise in JATS and BITS.
  • Experience developing and executing product roadmaps with a focus on content conversion, management and user experience.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision with day-to-day operational needs.
  • Proficiency in agile methodologies and product management tools (e.g., JIRA, Trello).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work in cross-functional teams and with external partners.
  • A customer-centric mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous learning.
  • Experience with Silverchair workflows and tools is a plus.

Essential Functions: Extensive computer work (six or more hours per day), manage multiple projects and multiple deadlines that create a demanding work environment, meet (both in person and by technological interface) and effectively communicate with stakeholders and potential customers, and travel nationally and internationally. While performing the responsibilities of the position, the employee will require the use of multiple senses (speech, hearing, touch, and close vision).

Work Environment: Typical office environment or home office environment where applicable. If working from a home-based office, the ability to maintain a productive work environment is required.
