Rights are an integral part of publishing but what happens when there are industry-wide problems that seem too big to fix? From addressing poor rights management to slashing six-month turnaround times for permissions requests, learn how Publishers’ Licensing Services are leveraging their position as a collective management organisation to start solving issues that plague publishing houses across the industry.

The webinar will last for approximately one hour (45 minutes plus questions).

photo Amy EllisAmy Ellis is the Rights and Licensing Manager at PLS. She is responsible for managing the growth of PLS Permissions service. She ensures the service is running smoothly for all users and stays in line with industry needs. She also contributes to the future development of PLSclear and PLS’s rights management initiatives. In 2019 she was named as one of The Bookseller’s ‘Rising Stars’ and shortlisted as an LBF Trailblazer in 2020.

photo Amy JoynerAmy Joyner is Head of Rights and Licensing at Kogan Page. Amy was highly commended for the Rights Professional of the Year award at the British Book Awards, 2018. She is responsible for the global subsidiary rights licensing strategy across all format types, and Kogan Page's digital licensing. Amy is the author of the IPG's course "Getting the Most out of Your Rights". She started her publishing career at McGraw-Hill Education and Oxford University Press and then Pearson where she headed up the rights sales team, before joining Kogan Page.

photo Diane Spivey Diane Spivey is Group Contracts Director, Hachette UK. She joined British publishing over forty years ago as an assistant in an export sales department. She swiftly moved over to the area of contracts and rights where she has stayed, working her way up from Rights Assistant to Contracts and Rights Director. Her experience is mainly in general trade publishing and she has worked for many companies over the years including Little, Brown, Simon & Schuster UK, Cassell, Harrap, Methuen and Hodder & Stoughton.  She is now Group Contracts Director for Hachette UK and has a keen interest in publishing systems.  She is also a regular lecturer on rights, and a contributor to Clark's Publishing Agreements.

photo Ben KennedyBen Kennedy is the Permissions Team Lead for the Academic division at Oxford University Press. He has worked in rights and permissions for 14 years, starting out as an assistant and working his way through every Permissions role, covering both journals and books and educational titles.
