ALPSP signs-up to the Sustainable Development Goals Publishers Compact to encourage and inspire action in achieving the goals by 2030 across the publishing industry.

The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) joins organizations across the publishing industry by signing up to the new Sustainable Development Goals Publishers Compact initiative which was launched at the Frankfurt Book Fair (14-18 October), The Association has confirmed its commitment in supporting and implementing the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

The initiative set up by the United Nations in collaboration with the International Publishers Association features 10 action points that publishers, publishing associations and others can agree to undertake to accelerate progress in achieving the SDGs over the ‘Decade of Action’ (2020-2030). By joining the SDG Publishers Compact, ALPSP agrees to aspire to develop sustainable practices and champion the goals.

Wayne Sime, Chief Executive of ALPSP commented:
“ALPSP is committed to making the UN Global Compact and its principles part of our strategy, culture and day-to-day operations by engaging in collaborative projects which advance the broader development goals of the United Nations, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals. We look forward to supporting this extremely important initiative to promote sustainable publishing activities globally.”

This year, ALPSP welcomed Sherri Aldis, Chief of UN Publications to open the Annual Conference and Awards held virtually last month, and gave the keynote presentation on ‘The Sustainable Development Goals: What do they mean for Scholarly Publishing and Research in the COVID-19 world?’ This can be viewed online.
