Royal Society Publishing selects The Charlesworth Group for social media management in China

The Charlesworth Group is delighted to announce a new partnership with Royal Society Publishing to oversee its WeChat social media activities in Mainland China. Under this arrangement, The Charlesworth Group will register and manage the Royal Society Publishing WeChat account and translate and post content to support the Society's journal publishing programme and engagement with academics in key universities across the country.

The Charlesworth Group is globally recognized as leading the field in providing sales representation, marketing and consultancy in the Chinese academic market, along with being a leading provider of Language Editing and Author Services through its Charlesworth Author Services Division.

The Group's social media management services provide a complementary and holistic means to pull these areas together, utilizing an additional forum to engage directly with the researcher and content-reader community. Using the Charlesworth team's strategic market insight, content is not only expertly translated and checked by specialist translators, but selected and localized to maximize impact and followers/readers.

Of the new arrangement, Michael Evans, Global CEO of The Charlesworth Group, comments: "Royal Society Publishing is a valued and long-standing client for content licensing and language editing services in China. We are delighted to collaborate with the Society's journal marketing team to enable its own blog content and other resources to be localized and shared with the researcher base in China, thereby supporting the Society in its goals to attract further submissions from leading authors, for open access as well as subscription-model journals, and in turn supporting those authors along the way with insightful and relevant content to solidify that engagement."

Dr Stuart Taylor, Publishing Director at Royal Society Publishing, adds: "We very much look forward to working with the Charlesworth team to publicize key content into this important market, along with providing further insight into our brand and publication activities and the benefits of submitting to our journals. This new collaboration will provide a vital complement to our English-language social media outreach by providing tailored, targeted local-language resources to help elicit high-quality submissions across our journal portfolio from such a strategically important territory."

Why WeChat?

WeChat is the leading social media outlet in China (Facebook and Twitter are not accessible). It extends beyond the usual role of an instant messaging app, playing a central part in day-to-day Chinese life. It is the country's most popular app, with well over 800 million users per month.

A presence on WeChat means that potential customers and partners in academia and publishing can immediately connect with a publisher's brand, through the platform China uses to do business.
