FEBS Communications and Digital Platforms Associate

FEBS (The Federation of European Biochemical Societies; is a charitable organization supporting research and education in molecular life sciences through its journals, fellowships, courses and other activities. Digital platforms facilitate much of its work, from communication on its programs, to presentation of resources and discussion for research scientists, to management of scientific events.

We are now seeking a Communications and Digital Platforms Associate to support FEBS’ objectives, via a role helping to manage content and use of online platforms. Working across (non-journal) sites such as the FEBS NetworkFEBS website and FEBS Congress website, but particularly on the FEBS Network, the postholder’s role will include:

  • Web content generation and curation, including planning, soliciting, editing, originating, presenting and disseminating FEBS Network blog posts on topics of interest to molecular life scientists, as well as FEBS news items and other content as required for different sites;
  • Platform user support, including onboarding and assisting contributors, event organizers and others, and developing the FEBS Network community;
  • Platform analysis and development, including analytics tracking and liaising with platform providers on technical issues and features.

The timing of this position is at an exciting moment when digital solutions including virtual scientific events are attracting increased interest, and we anticipate the position may include an important role in the assessment or deployment of such new developments by FEBS.

Skills, experience or background sought:

  • A science degree, and a keen interest in molecular life sciences and/or career, policy and related issues impacting research scientists
  • An excellent level of literacy with effective writing and editing skills
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage numerous tasks and stakeholders
  • An enthusiastic, sociable and authoritative approach to manage content contributors and build rapport with event organizers and other stakeholders
  • Interest in the technical side and user experience of web solutions and new developments

And two or more of:

  • Content creation and dissemination experience as an editor, journalist or (digital) marketer
  • Web content (text and image) editing experience
  • Online community management or social media experience (e.g. active on Twitter and LinkedIn)
  • Video/animation editing and creation experience • Event experience as a virtual or live event coordinator • Experience in communicating science to the general public

This is a full-time position, with a salary of £29–32,000 (depending on qualifications and experience) and generous employer pension contributions. Location: FEBS office at St Andrew’s House, Cambridge CB2 3BZ, UK.
