Description
The not-for-profit Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) seeks a locum Assistant Editor to join the editorial team for its flagship journal, The FEBS Journal.
The FEBS Journal publishes high-quality primary research and review articles in the molecular life sciences and has a very wide readership, with around 3.5 million article downloads in 2020. It is within the top quartile of journals in Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology. The journal’s Editor-in-Chief is Seamus Martin (Trinity College Dublin).
Members of the editorial team participate in all aspects of the editorial process, including: assessment and assignment of submitted manuscripts to editorial board members; management of the peer review process; quality control of accepted manuscripts; and commissioning and developmental editing of review articles. Editorial staff also promote the journal through social media, attending conferences and laboratory visits.
We seek an energetic, enthusiastic candidate with strong writing and networking skills who will flourish as part of a small, dynamic team. Applicants should have, or shortly expect to attain, a PhD in structural or molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology or a related discipline. Previous editorial experience would be a benefit but is not required.
This is a full-time temporary appointment (up to 1 year) for maternity cover, starting in mid-March 2021. It will be based in Cambridge, UK although remote working (within the UK) for several months may be necessary.
To apply, please send a CV, a cover letter explaining your interest in the position and a 200-word highlight of a recent advance in molecular or cell biology to Mary Purton (purton@febs.org). Successful applicants should be prepared to provide contact details for two references.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis up to 31 January 2021 and so please apply as early as possible.
