The role
Bristol University Press (BUP), and its imprint Policy Press (PP), is looking to appoint an Editorial Assistant (EA) to work across the Books Commissioning and Journals teams.
What will you be doing?
In the Commissioning Team, the EA is responsible for supporting the commissioning editors in the commissioning and project management of titles on their lists. This involves managing the proposal and contracted typescript peer review processes, liaising with authors, ensuring the accurate updating of the publishing software system and keeping other internal tracking documents accurate and up to date. The role also provides administrative support including assisting with drafting internal project documents and organising internal and external meetings.
In Journals, the EA provides secretarial and administrative support for specific journals, working closely with the (Co-)Editor(s)-in-Chief and Associate Editors and liaising with the Editorial Boards. Key tasks include facilitating the progress of papers through the online submission and peer review system (Editorial Manager} by carrying out tasks such as technical and content checks, assigning editors and checking progress, dealing with queries and providing journal Board meeting support.
You should apply if
You have proven administrative experience in a relevant role, preferably within publishing and basic knowledge of the publishing process. We are looking for someone enthusiastic with strong attention to detail, excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to plan and prioritise a busy workload.
