BMJ - Publishing Systems Coordinator - Fixed Term Position

BMJ seeks an experienced, efficient and proactive Publishing Systems Coordinator to join the Operations Department.  

As a member of the Systems team within the Operations Department, you will be responsible for supporting and making configuration updates to the ScholarOne peer review system.  

The role will act as a point of contact for day-to-day matters between the Systems team, internal staff and suppliers. 

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot problems raised by end users relating to the ScholarOne peer review system.
  • Manage the rollout of configuration updates across BMJ’s ~70 ScholarOne sites.
  • Provide training (as appropriate) to end users which include outsourced editorial staff, internal staff and journal editors.
  • Update journal and system specification documentation.
  • Liaise with systems suppliers to manage and monitor support tickets.
  • Work within the team of Publishing Systems Coordinators to develop and implement editorial workflow solutions.
  • To act as a contact for day-to-day communication between BMJ staff and the offshore editorial suppliers.

Qualifications

Skills 

  • Some experience of working in STM or HSS publishing industry. 
  • Some experience of working with offshore suppliers is desirable.
  • Some knowledge of peer review workflows and editorial practices. 
  • An ability to work under pressure and in a team environment. 
  • Ability to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines. 
  • Some technical knowledge of journal editorial production. 
  • The ability to communicate effectively (internally and externally).
  • Experience of working with the ScholarOne peer review system is desirable.

Key competencies:

  • Good knowledge of ScholarOne peer review system.
  • Knowledge or experience in managing peer review or production processes.
  • Works well in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Exposure to HTML, CSS, API and XML.
