The Publications Division is seeking a marketing professional who specializes in digital marketing and who will be responsible for the development and execution of integrated digital strategies to deliver marketing content focused on the objectives of the Division to publish and disseminate high-quality cancer research worldwide. The Digital Marketing Manager will work with the broader marketing team to develop integrated campaigns that build awareness, drive submissions, and drive usage through a variety of digital channels, including but not limited to Web, e-mail, and social media. The Manager will also collaborate with the sales team to optimize lead generation to conversion process. Additionally, the Manager will work in partnership with the AACR’s communications, social media, and marketing colleagues to ensure that the systems, processes, and reporting align with AACR initiatives and best practices. Regardless of the digital channel, the Manager will design, track and report the analytics and metrics.

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), with more than 40,000 members residing in 120 countries, is the first and largest organization in the world dedicated to advances in all areas of high-quality, innovative cancer research.  Its mission is to prevent and cure all cancers.  The programs and activities of the AACR foster the exchange of new knowledge among scientists and physicians in the cancer field as well as in related biomedical sciences.  AACR publishes eight peer-reviewed scientific journals and an award-winning magazine for cancer patients and their loved ones; convenes topical scientific conferences and an annual meeting that draws more than 22,600 participants; offers educational workshops that train young investigators in a variety of scientific and clinical areas; funds fellowships, career development awards, and research grants for both senior and junior investigators; raises public awareness of the progress in and reasons for hope in the biology, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer; engages actively in advocacy for increased federal research funding and other national policies that accelerate progress against cancer; and interacts with regulatory agencies to support regulatory science and policy.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the Twitter presence for the entire AACR journal portfolio.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop Twitter campaigns that help to achieve marketing goals.
  • Develop and submit monthly reports on emerging social media trends to the Assistant Director, Journals Marketing, and Director, Journal Sales and Marketing.
  • Identify and put forth opportunities to use other social media channels as part of marketing campaigns and plans.
  • Monitor the Twitter accounts for the entire AACR journal portfolio and offer constructive interaction with users.
  • Analyze the long-term needs of the AACR journals’ social media strategy and an annual report to the management and executive teams that outlines and necessary changes to the digital marketing plan.
  • Create and manage a digital marketing calendar to ensure that marketing campaignes are integrated using all relevant digital channels.
  • Measure and report performance of all digital marketing campaigns.
  • Identify trends and insights across all digital campaigns and optimize performance based on the insights.
  • In collaboration with the marketing team, develop an e-mail automation strategy, map out drip campaigns, and set up e-mail campaigns to drive manuscript submissions and usage to the journal websites.
  • Represent the Publications Division in the Salesforce Marketing Cloud implementation and be responsible for the migration to the tool, training of the marketing team, and providing regular updates as needed on the Marketing Cloud capabilites.
  • Work closely with the Digital Publishing group on search engine optimization to increase the quality and quantity of traffic to the journal websites.

Job Qualifications

  • Proven work experience in digital marketing.
  • Demonstrable experience managing SEO/SEM, marketing database, e-mail, and social media campaigns.
  • Excellent grasp of social media and e-mail metrics and best practices.
  • Solid knowledge of website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, NetInsight, Omniture, WebTrends).
  • Strong analystical skills and data-driven thinking.

Education and Training

  • BS/BM degress in marketing or a related field.
