ALPSP Training
ALPSP courses are tailored to meet the requirement of the academic and professional publishing market, including both not-for-profit organisations of all sizes and commercial publishers. Our courses offer career and personal development, equipping delegates for the challenges of the future.
Courses are highly participative and very specific to our segment of the industry. Groups are kept small (generally between 12-18) to enable full interaction. Each level 1 and 2 course lasts a day and consists of a mix of presentations, real-life case studies, practical break-out sessions and a question and answer slot. For many of the courses we ask that you bring along examples of your company's published material for analysis and discussion.
In addition to our full day courses we currently run our editorial workshop (How to be a Successful Journal Editor), over 1.5 days, giving attendees a valuable opportunity to discuss issues with colleagues from other organisations. Our level 3 courses are one day events ending with a drinks reception.
ALPSP Events
Forthcoming events Previous Events
ALPSP offers a full programme of lively events on topics of current interest to all those involved in publishing learned journals and books. A number of events are put on jointly with other like-minded organisations. In addition to providing well-informed updates on the subject, there is plenty of time for networking with other ALPSP members.
Most events and courses are held in London or Oxford, but the formation of the locally-based ALPSP Chapters means we are now developing our overseas programme of seminars and training courses. ALPSP North American Chapter
ALPSP International Conference (8-10 September 2010). 2008 saw a brand new international conference for the learned publishing community with the first ALPSP International Conference. The 2009 conference was held just outside Oxford and attracted just over 200 people and firmly established it in the scholarly publishing calendar. The conference is for everyone involved in all areas of scholarly publishing. It includes the ALPSP Awards dinner and offers ample time for discussion and networking.

Round tables are half- or full-day programmes on a topic of current concern, with a small number of expert speakers to start off discussion; numbers are restricted to facilitate discussion.
Briefings are 2-3 hour factual meetings on an important issue, such as a change in the law, with 2-3 expert speakers and plenty of time for questions.
Updates are half-day meetings on a key technical development, intended for a non-technical audience. |
