Goals for Public Policy - Scholarly Communications Statement of Principles

Download statement (pdf)

The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) is pleased to be one of the first organizations to endorse the Goals for Public Policy - Scholarly Communications Statement of Principles which have been produced by the Research Information Network (RIN).

The statement was released 22 February 2007 and draws together a number of key principles and goals which are at the heart of the scholarly communications process.

The scholarly communications environment has been a source of a great deal of frantic and often heated debate.  RIN have displayed a deep understanding of the issues and concerns of the various stakeholders and we believe that this statement represents a major step forward by providing a framework for constructive dialogue between them all.  ALPSP is particularly pleased that the statement makes clear the importance of the publishing industry and recognizes the value that publishers add, while at the same time urging continued innovation.  We feel that it will play an important role in building consensus and advancing the debate.

The statement has been endorsed by a number of organizations including the Publishers Association and the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers.

We would like to encourage ALPSP members to show their support for this statement by contacting Michael Jubb or Stéphane Goldstein at the Research Information Network.
