Overview
Participants will gain a broad overview of the workings of the editorial office in both non-commercial and commercial publishing companies.  The workshop is highly interactive and the emphasis is on practical problem solving and sharing of experience.  Participants will be able to see how they can help to improve and shape the journals they work on.

Program

  • Brief overview of the journal's publishing business and environment
  • A day in the life of an article. The whys and hows of the process
  • The peer review process, including electronic submission and review systems
  • Efficient journal administration. Hints and tips, problem solving and forward planning
  • The role of, and relationship with, the editor, editorial boards and authors

Learning Objectives - by the end of the course participants will:
Understand the role of the editor, the editorial team and reviewers, and the relationship with these groups; gain a good understanding of the key tasks required of an editorial assistant or administrator; understand the journal review process and author expectations; gain useful tips on how to manage journal administration efficiently; gain advice on best practice from peers.

Who should attend:
This course is suitable for editorial assistants, editorial administrators and anyone who has one to two years' experience in an editorial administrative capacity.
