ALPSP Learned Journals Collection (in partnership with Swets) All publisher members (both Full and Associate) are eligible to include their journals in the ALPSP Learned Journals Collection (ALJC). This is an ALPSP initiative whereby smaller publishers work together to sell a combined package of their journals, thus enabling them to compete for library funds with the 'Big Deals' offered by many of the larger publishers. The ALJC is managed in partnership with Swets, one of the world's leading subscription services company. ALPSP Alert newsletter The monthly e-newsletter for members provides up-to-date news and views on the publishing world. Specialised committees that keep an eye on important trends All ALPSP members have the chance to serve on committees which monitor issues of particular importance to the industry. Members keep a close eye on developments and report back to the wider membership through the Council and seminars. The Copyright Committee monitors developments in copyright and related areas, which are of vital significance to members. The Professional Development Committee is responsible for our comprehensive programme of training courses, seminars and other events. ALPSP International Conference. This residential conference is held each September and has quickly become a key fixture in the publishing calendar. The programme offers sessions on key topics and developments in all areas of scholarly publishing, with evening social events and plenty of time for discussion and networking during the day. 2011 Conference Programme (pdf).
The 2012 ALPSP International Conference will be held from 11- 13 September at the Belfry near Birmingham which is within minutes of major air,road and rail networks. The AGM and Awards dinner will be held on Wednesday 12 September. Marketing to Libraries ALPSP Training We offer a growing programme of one-day publishing training courses, specially tailored to the needs of people working in small learned and professional publishing organisations. The number of delegates is kept below 20, to encourage interaction, and the focus is on small group case-study work. Courses are organised in five subject strands - General Publishing; Business & Finance; Editorial; Production & E-Publishing; Marketing; and Legal Issues - and at three levels - introductory, intermediate and advanced (Strategic Management Workshops). ALPSP can also offer its existing courses or new ones on an in house basis. ALPSP eLearning ALPSP is delighted to announce the launch of its new eLearning program: We have converted 3 of our existing highly successful face-to-face publishing workshops into online, interactive courses, so that all ALPSP members, wherever they are based, can now access this key member benefit.
